Honolua Bay provides outstanding snorkeling and scuba diving when the sea is calm, usually during the summer months, and this is also when the water is clearest. When a swell is running, typically during the winter months, Honolua is a world-class surfing beach. There is only a small sandy beach at Honolua, which is nice for sunbathing, though the real draw of this beach is offshore. Snorkeling is best on the right side of the bay.
