Located along Molokai’s western shore, two separate beaches here include one that has more sand and is somewhat secluded and one that is fronted by tidepools. A small bluff separates these two beaches along this rocky and sandy shoreline. The beach is next to a large cinder cone called Pohaku Mauliuli (Black Rock). Because this cinder is very crumbly it is best to avoid
sunbathing at the base of the cinder cone. The beaches are unprotected from the open sea so they are subject to rough conditions.
Great For
Sunbathing, tidepool exploring. Swimming, snorkeling, and diving are good but only when the water is calm.
Highlights
The top of the bluff provides a picturesque view.
Need to Know: Due to strong ocean currents as well as the rocky seafloor in this area use extreme caution when swimming, and never go in the ocean during times of high surf or rough seas. There are also some large boulders along the water’s edge that can be hazardous when the waves are large so this area should be avoided.
