This beautiful sandy beach within Ala Moana Beach Park is somewhat protected from the open sea, although the usually calm water is sometimes subject to strong currents as well as ocean surges. The nearby grassy area and palm trees lining the shore add an extra charm. Snorkeling isn’t as good as some other beaches.

Great For
Sunbathing, swimming, watching the boats go to and fro from Ala Wai Harbor.
Highlights
Magic Island beach has great views of the high-rises of downtown Honolulu and the majestic Koolau Mountains.
Need to Know
During times when the ocean is less than perfectly calm be aware of areas with strong currents, particularly near the breaks in the protective breakwater. The ocean floor at this beach is not all sand so if you are spending lots of time exploring you may want to wear foot protection.
