State Capitol Building

Description

The unique architecture of Hawaii’s State Capitol building features volcano-shaped Legislative chambers as well as a large open central court area and tall supporting columns. Reflecting pools surrounding the complex symbolize the ocean around Hawaii.

The Hawaii State Capitol Building is located in downtown Honolulu

The open-air rotunda area is open to the public and allows a view into the Legislative chambers where you can see the tall, sloped walls. A major renovation of the Hawaii State Capitol Building took place in 1997. In front of the State Capitol is a Liberty Bell that was given to Hawaii by the U.S. Treasury in 1950. Also in front of the Capitol is a statue of Hawaii’s beloved Saint Damien who administered to the sick people of Kalaupapa on Molokai.
